Ukraine to raise up production of agricultural products by 2030

Until 2030, Ukraine will increase the harvest and production of the main types of agricultural raw materials, which will allow the country to consolidate the status of a constantly growing producer and exporter of grains, oilseeds and sunflower oil. The growth of the corn crop in Ukraine is projected from 33.99 to 44.01 million tonnes (+29.4%), wheat – from 26.01 to 35.86 million tonnes (+37.8%), and oilseeds – from 22.04 to 26.29 million tonnes (+19.3%). During the specified period, an increase in production of vegetable oil is also expected from 6.88 to 8.4 million tonnes (+22.1%), poultry meat – from 1.15 to 1.54 million tonnes (+33.9%), pork – from 0.71 to 0.82 million tonnes (+15.5%). At the same time, Ukraine is projected to reduce milk production from 9.82 to 8.93 million tonnes (-9.1%), sugar – from 1.38 to 1.24 million tonnes (-10.1%) and beef – from 0.37 to 0.33 million tonnes (-10.8%).

Ukrainian farmers raise up agricultural equipment leasing by 22%

The portfolio of agricultural equipment provided by lessors to Ukrainian farmers increased by 22.2% in 2021, to 5,870 units. In particular, 2,050 tractors (35% of the total number of equipment), 645 combines (11%), 587 tillage machines (10%) and 530 seeders and harvesters (10%) were leased by organized market leasing companies, that were able to meet the growing demand of domestic agricultural producers for the renewal and modernization of agricultural machinery.

Ukraine broke record of agricultural export for 4th year in a row in 2021

In 2021, the share of agricultural products in the overall Ukrainian exports decreased to 41% from 45% in 2020. However, agricultural products remained the core of the Ukrainian exports. In 2021, Ukraine set several records in agricultural exports – 20.071 mln tonnes of wheat, 459 thsd tonnes of poultry, 38 mln tonnes of pasta. Grains and oilseeds, vegetable oils, residues from food processing industry, meat products remained the core of the Ukrainian agricultural export. The common share of these products totaled 87%.
In 2021, Ukraine exported agricultural products at the sum of 27.9 bln USD, up 25% from the previous record of 2020. In 2021, Asia strengthened its position as the key buyer of Ukrainian agricultural products. Ukrainian export to Asia amounted to 13.7 bln USD, up 26% from the preceding record of 2020. Asian countries accounted for 49.1% of the total Ukrainian agricultural export.The supplies to the EU and UK increased by 12% to 8.4 bln USD in 2021. The share of the region totaled 30.1%. Shipments to Africa increased by 28% to 3.7 bln USD, the share of the region was 13.3%. Agricultural export to the CIS countries grew by 8% to 1.4 bln USD, their share was 5%.

Ukraine increased agricultural production by 14% in 2021

In 2021, the production volumes of agricultural commodities in all categories of Ukrainian agricultural households increased by 14.4% y/y. The production of plant growing commodities increased by 19.9%, while the production of livestock products was down by 4.4%. In particular, agricultural enterprises increased the production volumes by 19.2%, and households of the population by 5.5.%. In 2020, Ukraine increased agricultural production by 11.5%.

Ukraine increased export of plant-growing products by 31% in 2021

In 2021, Ukraine exported plant-growing products at the sum of 15.55 bln USD, up 30.9% y/y. Additionally, the export of animal and plant based fats and oils increased by 22.6% y/y to 7.05 bln USD, prepared food by 13.1% to 3.8 bln USD.“Our key task is to open as many as possible foreign markets for Ukrainian producers. We plan to open not less than 40 markets in 2022. It is also important to strengthen our positions at the already opened markets”, – said the Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko.

Ukraine produces 10.6 mln tonnes of sugar beet in 2021

Farmers dug 10.6 million tonnes of sugar beet in Ukraine in 2021, which is 2.3 million tonnes (28.7%) more than in 2020. The average sugar beet yield in Ukraine was 46.9 tonnes per ha, which is 6 tonnes per ha more than in 2020.

Ukraine harvests 84 mln tonnes of grain, 22.6 mln tonnes of oilseeds in 2021

In 2021 Ukraine has a record harvest of grain, legumes and oilseeds of 106 million tonnes: cereals and legumes – 84 million tonnes and oilseeds – 22.6 million tonnes. Last year, the harvest of cereals and legumes amounted to about 65.5 million tonnes, oilseeds was 18.5 million tonnes.

Economy Ministry works on development of irrigation systems

One of the key priorities for the development of the Ukrainian economy is to support agriculture through the development of irrigation systems. This is the key project, and the Ministry of Economy will be responsible for it from next year. The first pilot project in this direction will start in 2022. It will cover 200 hectares of land in four southern regions of the country.

Ukraine raised seed export to the EU on recognition of seed equivalence

A year has already passed since a rather significant event for Ukraine – the recognition of the equivalence of the Ukrainian seed certification system to the EU requirements. In October 2020, the final vote was held at the session of the European Parliament on the opening of the European market for the Ukrainian seed of corn and sorghum, which was undoubtedly a turning point in the development of not only the seed industry, but also the agricultural sector of Ukraine. Customs data says Ukraine exported 1.642 thsd tonnes of seeds of the main agricultural crops to the EU in January-October 2021.

Agricultural trade turnover between Ukraine and the EU up 20% y/y

In January-September 2021, the trade turnover of agricultural goods between Ukraine and the European Union grew by 20% y/y to 8.4 bln USD. The Netherlands, Poland, Germany, Italy, Spain and France remained the largest trading partners for Ukraine. Their common share is about 71% of the overall agricultural trade turnover. As of mid-October, Ukrainian exporters have already took up the duty free export quotas for supply of honey, apple and grape juices, barley groat and flour, canned tomatoes, processed starch as well as quarter quotas for supply of eggs and poultry meat.
